6、ustrysuchasOpenSkySilkRoadinAir,fromtheperspectiveofperiodicalconstruction,accurateandstandardacademicEnglishbecomingnotonlyimportantbutalsonecessary;developingaspecificlanguagetestaboutaviationacademicEnglishisascientificwayfortalenttrainingandselecion.SomeresearchersinChinahavedonesimilarstudieson

7、thetestingstructureandmaterialcollectionofcollegeESPtestsfromvariousperspectives,whichprovethefeasibilityofthetest.VariousESPtestshavemergedtheseyears,helpingtofiltercandidatesforuniversitiesandcompanies.However,researchesaboutaviationacademicEnglisharerare;onlythetwoexistingaviationEnglishtestsarem

8、erelyfocusingononesmallpartofthishugeindustry.Ontheotherhand,theneedforsuchatesthasneverbeendecreased;especiallywhentherehavebeenmoreandmoreinternationaltrainingprogramsdesignedforworkersinaviationindustrysuchasaviationmaterialresearcher,airtrafficcontroller,aircraftmaintainer,aviationlawyerandsoon.

9、I.ExistingESPTestsandRelevantResearchesSomeuniversityESPteachershavedonetheiraudaciousattempts,tryingtodevelopsuchatest,evaluatingthevalidityandreliabilityofthetestinarelativelysmallscope,forexample,inauniversityortheuniversitiesinacity.ResultoftheirresearchescontributestothenecessityofdesigningtheA

10、viationAcademicEnglishTestinalargeextent.PingHuangfromChongqingUniversityisoneofthem.PingHuang2020investigatedthereliabilityandvalidityoftheCollegeSpecializedEnglishTest.Theresearchproject“TheTestingMethodandStructureofCollegeSpecializedEnglishafterReadingPeriodsponsoredbytheNationalCollegeEnglishCE

11、T46CommitteewastostudythefeasibilityoftheCollegeSpecializedEnglishTestinChina.Thethesisanalyzedtheresultsfrom333studentswhohadadiagnosedtestandstudiesthereliabilityandvaliditythroughcomparingwiththestudentsCET4testscoresandthespecializedEnglishachievementtestscores.ThestudentsfeedbackprovesthattheCo

12、llegeSpecializedEnglishisfeasibleandessential.Absolutely,theresultofProfessorHuangsresearchgivesstrongsupportforthecurrentstudy.Meanwhile,therearemoreandmoreEnglishTestsforSpecificPurposesspringoutintheworld.NowadaysinChina,millionsofcandidatestakepartinallkindsofESPteststogetcertificationswhichareh

13、elpfulinuniversityapplicationandjobhunting.ThefollowingtwotablesshowustheexistingtestsaboutspecificpurposesinChinamainland,UKandUSA.ThetestsinTab.1areallthetenTestsofEnglishforSpecificPurposes,andtheTab.2showsthetwelvetestsinthelanguageofEnglishforspecialpurposes.Allofthetwenty-twotestsareavailablei

14、nChinanow.ThefirsttwotestsinTab.1aredevelopedbyChinasdepartmentsand/orcompaniespurely;whilethethirdtest,F(xiàn)ET,isdevelopedbybothChineseandoverseasorganizations.AllthetestsinTab.2arenotTESPstrictly,buttheworkinglanguageofthemisEnglishandtheyareallaboutsomespecificsubjectfields;thereforetherearesomevalua

15、bleideascanbeusedinthedevelopmentofAviationAcademicEnglishTestAAET.Aswecanseeintheabovetwotables,mostofthetestsareaboutfinanceandbusiness.ButthetrendismoreandmoreEnglishtestsaboutothersubjectscomeoutorwillcomeoutinthefuture.Alongwiththeimplementationofaviationglobalization,theaeronauticalandastronau

16、ticcooperationamongcountriesenlargestheamountofacademicpublishingZong2020.Meanwhile,accordingtotheneedscomefromperiodicaleditors,collegeteachers,scientificresearchersandemployers,AviationAcademicEnglishTestAAETshouldbedevelopedtoserveforthetechnicalexchange.AAETisdesignedasastandardizedtestwithspeci

17、fictechnicalandlanguagepointsincertainscenarioswhicharecloselyrelatedtoaviationacademicresearchandthesispublishingsuchasaviationinfrastructureconstruction,aircraftmaterialexperiment,airleasingnegotiation,air-groundcommunicationandsoon.onceitisdevelopedandappliedasanauthorizedcriterionfortrainingands

18、elecingtalents,theacademicvaluewillbesignificant.II.NecessityofAAETAsintroducedabove,theacademicpublishinginaeronauticalandastronauticindustryincludesalargeamountofsub-branches;however,thetwoexistingaviation-relatedESPtestsinChinaareonlydesignedforairtrafficcontrollersandaircrew.Therearethousandsofa

19、cademicthesesinEnglishwrittenbyChineseaviationscholarsinChina,mostofthemcostlongtimeonlanguagepolishing;atthesametime,graduatestudentsknowfewaboutacademicEnglishparadigm.Acompletetestingsystemcoversallthesub-disciplinesinaviationindustryneedtobedevelopedtonotonlyselectqualifiedcandidatesbutalsoasaef

20、fectivewayoftalentcultivation.Surveyintheaviationindustryprovestheaboveview.2.1IndustrySurveyHypothesis:AviationAcademicEnglishTestisnecessaryandfeasibleinChina.Instrument:Consideredaboutthedataneeded,thisresearchadoptedthefollowingthreeresearchmethods:questionnaire,interview,andquizzes.Participants

21、:Tomakesuretheresultisauthentic,validandrepresentative;thedatacollectionmustcontainalargenumberofsampleswholocateinvariousareasandworkindifferentjobs.AstheapplicationofAAETinvolvesdifferentkindsofpeoplesuchaseditors,scholars,teachersandstudents,thecurrentresearchisbasedonfourdifferentbutmutual-relev

22、antquestionnairestofindouttherealneedsandattitudesintheaviationindustry.AnotherfactorthatwouldinfluencetheresearchresultisthecurrentunbalanceddevelopingstatusofChineseeconomyandaviationindustry.Consideringthat,thesamplesofthisresearchrespectivelycomefromthenortheastpartNE,thesoutheastpartSE,thenorth

23、westpartNWandthemiddlepartMofChinatoinvestigatetheirrealopinionsholistically.Andthelastfactoristhedifferentkindsofthecorporation,state-ownedenterprisesattitudestowardsonepointmaybetotallydifferentfromtheprivatefactories.Withtheaimoftakingabirds-eyeviewoftheAAETproficiency,thesubjectsarerequiredtocom

24、pleteamodelquiz.Procedure:a.Categorizeparticipantsaccordingtotheirlocationsanddifferentpositionsinthisfield.Designquestionnaireandquizfordifferentsamplesrespectivelywiththehelpofrelevanttheoriesandavailablequestionnaires.b.Handoutthequestionnairesandquizzes.Collectandcategorizetheminitially.c.about5

25、%ofthe445sampleswereinterviewedaboutthereasonsandattitudestotheiranswersandsomeofthemsuppliedprecioussuggestionstothecurrentresearch.d.Collectandanalyzethedata.2.2ResultAnalyses2.2.1TotalInformationThereare445effectivequestionnairesand124quizzesarereturnedback,whichaccountrespectivelyfor92.7%and62%o

26、fthetotal.Thereasontheelsehaventfinishedthequestionnaireswasalmosttheydidnthaveenoughtime;butthereasonfortheunfinishedquizzeswastheparticipants,mostlygraduatestudents,wereafraidoffailingthequizandlosingtheirfaces,andtheychosetoescapefromthequiz,whichalsoreflectstheESPproficiencyofthemonsomeextent.2.

27、2.2DatafromQuestionnairesandInterviewsAccordingtotheresultofthequestionnairesandinterviews,therearethreeimportantquestionsaboutthefeasibilityandvalueofAAETandtheyareworthtobeanalyzedspecifically.Inallthefollowingtables,Emeanseditorsofaviationperiodicals,Rmeansresearcherswhograduatefromaviation-relat

28、edmajorsandworkinaviationinstitutionsasscientificandtechnicalresearchers,TmeanscollegeteachersandSmeanscollegestudentswhoengageinacademicresearchesfollowingtheirtutors,AmeansairlinerHRwhoareresponsiblefortalentselecionandcontinuingeducation.AlltheparticipantsinGroupEareeditorsworkingforaviationperio

29、dicalsinChina,50%ofwhichareinChineseand50%areinEnglish.TheR+T+Sparticipantstakealargeproportionwhichis89.7%ofall;75%ofthemareregularauthorsofaviationperiodicalsandtheothersarepotentialauthorswhoneedtobehelpedinacademicwriting.QuestionOne:EditorseducationbackgroundandtheirattitudeaboutAAET?Amongallth

30、e27editorparticipants,onlythreeofthemareEnglishmajorsandtheirmaintaskislanguageeditingandproofreading.EightofthemareworkingforaviationperiodicalsinEnglishandthethesiseditedarecompletelywritteninEnglish.AllofthemagreewiththeimportanceofsuchastandardtestandexpectthistestcouldhelpimprovetheirauthorsEng

31、lishproficiency.Someusefulsuggestionsarealsosuppliedfromtheirdailyworkingexperience.QuestionTwo:WilltheparticipantsfurtherEnglishlearningornot?Asshowninthetablebelow,68%aviationperiodicaleditorsarewillingtocontinueEnglishlearning,andtheyhopetheirauthorscouldcontinuouslyimprovetheiracademicEnglishwri

32、tingthroughspeciallydesignedtrainingprograms.Ascurrentandpotentialacademicwriters,researchersofaviationinstitutions,collegeteachersandstudentsexpressstrongwillingofEnglishproficiencyimprovement.AirlinerHRsalsowanttogetbetteroralandwrittenEnglish,meanwhile,theyallhavestrongneedtodesigntrainingplanfor

33、theiremployees.QuestionThree:Ifso,whichtypeofcourseyouwillchoose?WhentheyareaskedtochooseonlyoneoptionofEnglishtraining,collegeteachersrankthefirstofaviationacademicEnglishandtheyallagreewiththeideathatAAEshouldbecompulsorycoursefortheirstudents;thereasontheywanttohavesuchtrainingistoteachtheirstude

34、ntsinthesameway.WhenaskedwhethertheyarewillingtotakepartinAAET,theyallshowstrongwilling.Fromtheperspectiveofeditors,itisnecessaryfortheirauthorstotakepartinthistestandcorrespondingtrainingprograms.Onaverage,thereare44.6%oftheparticipantschooseAAEastherefurthereducationsubject,whichmeanstheneedforapp

35、ropriatetrainingprogramsandqualifiedteachersishuge.Meanwhile,aftersuchkindoftraining,astandard,authoritativeanduniformtestwillbeneededasausefulassessmentandencouragingtool.2.2.3DatafromQuizBesidesthesubjectiveresult,westillneedobjectivesupporttoverifytheneedsofdevelopingtheAAET.Theresultof124usableq

36、uizzesconfirmstheresearchershypothesis,whichwecanconcludefromthefollowingtable.Themodeandmedianoftheresultsareequalandthemeanscoreisnearlythesametothem,sothetendencyofthescoresisalmostnormaldistribution.Thediscriminationindexis0.41,whichmeansthequizdistinguishedwellbetweencandidatesatdifferentlevels

37、ofAAEability.Therangeisequalto100,whichmeansthattheparticipantsproficiencygapsfromeachotherareonalargeextent.Finallythestandarddeviationwhichis30.31testifiesthewidelydifferentabilityandneedofuniformevaluationaswellastrainingofAAE.III.FeasibilityofAAET3.1TestDevelopmentPreparation:NeedsAnalysesModelT

38、helanguagevariables,communicatingactivitiesandtechnicaltermsinvolvedintestsaretotallyselecedaccordingtotheresultofneedsanalysistoguaranteethetestisvalid,scientificandstandard.NeedsanalysestypicallyinvolvegatheringinformationonwhatlanguagewillbeneededbytestcandidatesinrelationtothetestspurposeAlderso

39、n1995.Choosinganefficientandscientificmodelofneedsanalysisisvitalforthetestdevelopment.Richards,Platt,andWeber1985suggestedthatthefollowingkindsofinformationneededtobegathered:a.situationsinwhichalanguagewillbeusedincludingwhowillbeusedwithb.objectivesandpurposesforwhichthelanguageisneededc.typesofc

44、testdesignersneedtoidentifythepurposeofthetest,thespecificlanguagecomponentsinthetargetlanguagesituations.Alloftheabovemodelshavetheirownadvantagesanddefects;needsanalysesinthecurrentstudyconductedadopttheirfeaturesthataremorepracticalforresearchersinChina.3.2CorpusforAviationAcademicEnglishIntheana

45、lysisofthesixthquestion,someparticipantsexpressedtheirworryaboutthepressurebroughtbythetest.Tosavecandidatestimepreparingforit,thelanguagepointstestedshouldberepresentative,authenticandpractical.UsingacorpusofAviationacademicEnglishisthemosteffectivewaytoachievethegoal;meanwhile,thetestdevelopmentwi

46、llbemoreeffective.Asoneofthemostpopularwordsinappliedlinguistics,corpushasbeenusedinlotsofaspectssuchastranslationandlanguageteaching.Alderson1996gaveusanexampleofthepossibleuseforcorporainassessment:Forthosecorporawhosetextsarecharacterizedaccordingtodifficultyorsuitabilityforlevelsoflearner,itwoul

47、dbepossibletoselecttextssuitableforagiventestpopulationtheuseofcorporamayallowlearnersaccesstoreallanguagedataandfreethemfromthetyrannyofthetestersjudgmentsItisessentialtoconstructthecorporaofEEA,gatheringtechnicalandlanguagepointsfromtherealaviationacademiccommunicationsituations.onceitislaunched,t

48、hetestdevelopmentwillbescientific,effectiveandcanadvancewiththeaviationindustrygrowth.IV.ConclusionTheauthorsEnglishproficiencymeansalotforjournaleditorsandperiodicalconstruction,highproficiencycanhugelyimprovetheeditorsworkingefficiency.AAETcouldbeusedtoevaluateandmotivatetheircurrentandpotentialau

49、thors;AAETcanbeseenasastandardhelpingimprovetheirlanguageability.Needanalysesshouldbedoneaspreparationofthetestdevelopment.Withthepopularityofcorpora,testdevelopmentwillbemoreeffectiveandconvenient.Thisresearchisjusttheveryfirststepofthegiantproject.Furtherresearchesshouldpaymoreattentiontolanguagev
