In 1990, 75% of houses were owned by the state;

9、 in 1995, this rate decreased to 60%; and in 2000, only 20% of houses belonged to the state. The chart illustrates the tremendous changes that have taken place in the ownership of houses in China over the past ten years. In 1990, up to 75% of houses in China were state-owned, and in 1995, the propor

10、tion of state-owned houses to private ones was 60% to 40%. When it comes to the year 2000, 80% of houses were private and only 20% are state-owned. Changes in the Ownership of Houses As shown in the chart, the past decade witnessed an enormous change in the ownership of houses in China. In 1990, onl

11、y 25% of the houses were privately owned, while state-owned houses accounted for 75%. In 1995, the percentage of state-owned houses dropped by 15 points with a corresponding rise in the percentage of private houses. And in 2000, the ratio was more than reversed, with the private houses rising to 80%

12、 and state-owned ones shrinking to 20%.Changes in the Ownership of Houses How and why does this change happen? First and foremost, this is an inevitable trend with the construction of the market economy, in which market controls the distribution and circulation of commodities, including housing. The

13、n, it is also a convincing evidence of the development and improvement of peoples life. With more and more money available, people can afford such big commodities like houses and cars. There are many factors contributing to this development, of which the first and foremost is the reform in the housi

14、ng policy. In the early 1990s, the Chinese government started to withdraw its housing allocation policy in the cities and urged stated-owned houses to be sold to their dwellers. Another important cause is the general improvement of the living standard in urban areas. Peoples income has doubled in th

15、e past decade, enabling most families to afford to buy a house. Last but not the least, the reform in banking policy also speeds up the change. Those who havent got enough money can apply for loans or buy houses by installments. Such changes have had great influence on the society as well as the ind

16、ividuals. The government no longer has the burden of providing houses for people and it can focus on the development of economy. As for the individuals, although they have to save money to buy houses, they are glad their dreams of having houses of their own has come true. This phenomenon in return w

In 1990, it was less than 2 hours; and in 1995, it rose to almost 4 hours; while in 2000, the number soared to 20 hours. However, this change is quite easy to understand. There are several reasons.
