2、p,we want to end gender inequality此番演講是為了獲得您的支持，能讓我們一道行動，終結性別不平等And to do this,we need everyone involved實現這個目標需要每個人的參與This is the first campaign of its kind at the UN這次我們開創(chuàng)了聯(lián)合國發(fā)起的同類活動的先河We want to try to galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change，and we dont just want to t

9、ch an uncomfortable one為何這個詞已經讓人如此不適I am form Britain,and I think it is wright that I am paid the same as my male counterparts,I think it is wright that I should be able to make decisions about my own body,I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and the decisions that

10、 affect my life,I think it is right that socially,I am afforded the same respect as men我來自英國,我認為我應該獲得與我男性同行同等的資金待遇，我認為我應該擁有自主支配自己身體的權利，我認為女性應該代表我參與到能影響我生活的政策制定中，我認為在社會上我也能贏得與男性同樣的尊重But sadly I can say that there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights.No cou

11、ntry in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality,these rights I consider to be human rights遺憾的是，我可以說世界上任何一個國家的女性群體都未能完全擁有這些權利，至今無一國家能斷言,他們已經實現了性別平等，這些權利我認為就是人權But I am one of the lucky ones,my life is a sheer privilege, because my parents didnt love me less because I was born a

12、daughter,My school did not limit me because I was a girl,my mentor didnt assume that I would go less far because I might give birth to a child one day但我無疑是幸運的，我一直享受著特殊待遇，因為我的父母并沒有因為我身為女兒就減少對我的關愛，我就讀的學校也沒有因為我是女孩就加以限制，我的導師也沒有因為我日后將為人母而對我不予厚望These influencers were the gender equality ambassadors that m

13、ade me who I am today,they may not know it,but they are the inadvertent feminists,we need more of those and if you still hate the word,it is not the word that is important,its the idea and the ambition behind it,because not all women have received the same rights that I have.In fact statistically ve

14、ry few have been這些影響我的人們正如推廣性別平等的大使，是他們成就了今天的我，也許他們并沒有察覺，但他們就是那些“無心插柳”的女權主義者們。我們需要更多的這類人，如果你任然厭惡這個詞，那么其實詞本身不重要，重要的是詞背后傳遞的理念和愿景，因為并不是所有女性都擁有和我一樣的權利。事實上從數據上看只有很少一部分女性擁有這樣的權利。In 1997 Hillary Clinton made a famous speech in Beijing about women s rights,Sadly many of the things that she wanted to change,

15、are still true today.But what stood out for me the most was that less than 30 percent of the audience were male!997年，希拉里克林頓在北京就女性權利發(fā)表了一次著名演講，遺憾的是很多當時她力求改變的情況，在今天任然存在，但我更留意到男性觀眾少于30的事實How can we affect change in the world when only half of it is invited or feel welcome to participant in the conversat

16、ion.當世界上只有一半人口收到邀請鼓勵加入到談話中，我們又怎能奢望改變這個世界呢Men I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal information,Gender equality is your issue too男同胞們我想借此機會向你們發(fā)出正式邀請，性別平等也是你們的議題Because to date Ive seen my fathers role as a parent being valued less by society,despite my needing his presence as a

17、child as much as my mothers因為是指今日，我見證到最為家長，父親的角色被社會所輕視,盡管孩童時代我需要父母給予同樣的關照Ive seen young men suffering from mental illness unable to ask for help,for fear it would make them less of man ,or less of a man.我看到年輕男性遭受心理疾病的折磨，而無法向外尋求幫助，因為害怕這樣看起來不男人，被人瞧不起In fact in the U.K.suicide is the biggest killer of

19、享受到平等帶來的福利We dont often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes,but I can see that they are我們不常談到男性同樣，遭受性別刻板印象的禁錮，但我能察覺到這點When they are free things will change for women as a natural consequence,If men dont have to be aggressive in order to be accepted,women wont be compelled to be sub

21、that we all perceive gender on a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals如今我們應該用更大的視野看待性別，而不是兩套對立的規(guī)范If we should stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are,we can all be freer and this is what HeForShe is about,Its about freedom如果我們能不再通過消減異性的特征來定義自己
