These plants were grown and matured over a period of 33 days aboard the ISS, and sent back to Earth for food safety testing.The second batch of seeds, which had been on board the ISS for 15 months, were planted on July 8, 2015, and were again grown over a

It is this second batch that will be munched by the crew on August 10.NASA researchers are hoping to determine whether these fresh vegetables have an impact on the physical and psychological health of the astronauts. Having fresh food like these available in space could have a po
4、sitive impact on people s moods and could also provide some protection against radiation in space.This is important groundwork, not just for the future of the ISS, which would potentially require fewer supply missions if astronauts could grow their own food, but also for NASA s manned Journey to Mar
5、s program, scheduled to take place in the 2030s and which would see astronauts spend at least a year on a trip to the Red Planet.Earth won t be able to send resupply shuttles (再補(bǔ)給航天飛機(jī))to the Mars crew, so they will need to be as self-sufficient as possible. 15、also about myself and how I see the world. As I floated in that seemingly endless sea of air, I became aware of the variety and complexity of the humanity below. On the ribbons of roadways, each tiny car carried people with hopes and dreams. I wondered if any of those people had ever wished to fly l
16、ike an eagle. Then I realized that each must have his or her own dreams and ambitions. That s what makes us unique. We try to respond to something special inside us. I also realized that I was especially fortunate to be making my own dream come true.Everywhere I go, I hear, “Do what makes you happy
