TheNationalMarineSanctuariesProgramisacrucialpartofnewmanagementpracticesinwhichwholecommunitiesofspecies,andnotjustinpidualspecies,areofferedsomedegreeofprotectionfromhabitatdegradationandoverexploitation.Onlyinthiswaycanareasonabledegreeofmarinespeciespersitybemaintainedinasettingthatalsomaintainsthenaturalinterrelationshipsthatexistamongthesespecies.
