In1787hewasenrolledintoCambridgeuniversity,forthefurtherstudy,aftergraduaedfromtheuniversityhelivedinFrancewherehemakefriendswithmanyrevolutionaries.HewaslastfortheFrenchrevolution,thinkingthatitshowedhuman'sintelligence,andthatitwillsavepeoplefromnationalsuferringanddepression.In1792,WilliamWordsworthbacktoLondon,stillfullofenthusiasmforrevolution.Buthisunclewasdissatisfactedwithhispoliticalactivities,preventinghimformputtinghismindtothat,andthreateningnothelphimanymore.Whilehewasindesperation,oneofhisoldclassmatesdiedandlefthim900pounds.SoinOctober1795,Dorothyandhimmovedtocountrytogethertoexplorethemeaningoflifeclosedtonature.Dorothywasintelligentandconsiderate,givinghimmanycreatedinspires.WordsworthandSamuelTaylorColeridge(柯爾律治)、RobertSouthey(騷塞)werecalledLakePoets“湖畔派”。

TheyarethefirstromanticwritersappearedinBritishliterature.Theylovedthenature,haddesireforthedescriptionofthelegalsystemofrurallife(宗法制農(nóng)村生活),disgustedwitncapitalisturbancivilizationandcoldmoneyrelationship(資本主義的城市文明和冷酷的金錢關(guān)系),sotheywouldratherstayfarfromcities,liveaprivatelifebythebluelakes.After,theyownedthename"lakepoets".

Wordsworthistheleaderofthe"lakepoets".ButhiscareerintheFrenchrevolutionwasfailed.Thenhealteredhisattentionstothelandscapeofthenature.However,hispoetryrealizedtheepoch-making(劃時代的)innovations(創(chuàng)新)sothathewasknownasthefirstmodernpoet.williamisnotpopularatthattime.first,hispoemsaredifficulttotranslate,forhecreatedmorephilosophy(哲理)thanepic(敘事詩)poems,Thesecondreasonisthathehasbeenregardedas"reactionaryromantic"(反動的浪漫主義),somanypeopledidnotreadhisworks。
