Becausetheresnothingmorebeautifulthanthewaytheoceanrefusestostopkissingtheshoreline,nomatterhowmanytimesitssentaway.Youwillputthewindinwinsome,losesome.Youwillputthestarinstartingover,andover.Andnomatterhowmanylandmineseruptinaminute,besureyourmindlandsonthebeautyofthisfunnyplacecalledlife.Andyes,onascalefromonetoover-trusting,Iamprettydamnnaive.ButIwanthertoknowthatthisworldismadeoutofsugar.Itcancrumblesoeasily,butdontbeafraidtostickyourtongueoutandtasteit.

Imsorry.Okay,sothesearethreethingsIknowtobetrue.ButthereareplentyofthingsIhavetroubleunderstanding.SoIwritepoemstofigurethingsout.SometimestheonlywayIknowhowtoworkthroughsomethingisbywritingapoem.SometimesIgettotheendofthepoem,lookbackandgo,Oh,thatswhatthisisallabout,andsometimesIgettotheendofthepoemandhaventsolvedanything,butatleastIhaveanewpoemoutofit.
開個玩笑好了,這3件事對我而說是真實的但有許多事讓我一頭霧水所以我寫詩,盼望可以找到答案有時唯一能讓我搞明白某件事的方式就是寫詩有時我寫完詩再回過頭讀一讀“哦,原來如此啊?!笨捎袝r我寫完詩它卻不會帶給我任何解答但好在我有了一首新詩

口語詩是詩歌的藝術(shù)表現(xiàn)我告知人們口語詩是詩歌的一種創(chuàng)新使它不只安平穩(wěn)穩(wěn)地躺在書本上有時它需要營造出振聾發(fā)聵的效果或讓人們眼見而真
WhenIwasafreshmaninhighschool,Iwasalivewireofnervoushormones.AndIwasunderdevelopedandover-excitable.Anddespitemyfearofeverbeinglookedatfortoolong,Iwasfascinatedbytheideaofspoken-wordpoetry.Ifeltthatmytwosecretloves,poetryandtheater,hadcometogether,hadababy,ababyIneededtogettoknow.SoIdecidedtogiveitatry.Myfirstspoken-wordpoem,packedwithallthewisdomofa14-year-old,wasabouttheinjusticeofbeingseenasunfeminine.Thepoemwasveryindignant,andmainlyexaggerated,buttheonlyspoken-wordpoetrythatIhadseenupuntilthatpointwasmainlyindignant,soIthoughtthatswhatwasexpectedofme.
當(dāng)我是一名高一新生時我的神經(jīng)激素特別活躍那時我發(fā)育尚未完全卻興奮特別盡管我一直可怕被人盯著看太久但口語詩歌這一想法卻深深令我著迷我覺得我的兩個心頭所愛詩歌和戲劇已經(jīng)結(jié)為一體,并孕育出一個新生兒一種需要我去了解的新的藝術(shù)形式所以我打算試一試我的口語詩處女作集結(jié)了一個14歲時孩童的全部才智訴說著我被冤枉成一個“女漢子”的苦這首詩字里行間流露著憤慨大部分描寫有些夸張但那時我知道的唯一一首口語詩基本上就是義憤填膺的所以我想這就是我所期望的效果
ThefirsttimethatIperformed,theaudienceofteenagershootedandholleredtheirsympathy,andwhenIcameoffthestage,Iwasshaking.Ifeltthistaponmyshoulder,andIturnedaroundtoseethisgiantgirlinahoodiesweatshirtemergefromthecrowd.Shewasmaybeeightfeettallandlookedlikeshecouldbeatmeupwithonehand,butinsteadshejustnoddedatmeandsaid,Hey,Ireallyfeltthat.Thanks.Andlightningstruck.Iwashooked.
我第一次表演它時青少年觀眾們哄笑一堂,大聲叫喊以示憐憫于是我顫抖著走下舞臺這時有人在我肩膀上輕拍了一下我轉(zhuǎn)身看到一個穿著帽衫的身材高大的女孩,從觀眾群中脫身而出她或許有2米多高看起來似乎一拳就可以把我擊倒在地與此相反的是,她只是對我點點頭說到“嘿,我的確和你有同感。謝了?!绷⒖滔褚坏篱W電劃過夜空我的確被她的話語擊中
IdiscoveredthisbaronManhattansLowerEastSidethathostedaweeklypoetryopenMic,andmybewildered,butsupportive,parentstookmetosoakineveryounceofspokenwordthatIcould.Iwastheyoungestbyatleastadecade,butsomehowthepoetsattheBoweryPoetryClubdidntseembotheredbythe14-year-oldwanderingabout.Infact,theywelcomedme.
我發(fā)覺曼哈頓下東區(qū)的這個酒吧它每周主持一次公眾詩歌朗讀表演我那困惑卻又無比支持我的父母帶我完全沉醉在口語詩表演的每次發(fā)聲中我是最年輕的詩人,比排名其次的那位年輕至少10歲不知怎的,鮑威利詩社的詩人并不介意14歲的我在此徘徊事實上,他們歡迎我的加入
Anditwashere,listeningtothesepoetssharetheirstories,thatIlearnedthatspoken-wordpoetrydidnthavetobeindignant,itcouldbefunorpainfulorseriousorsilly.TheBoweryPoetryClubbecamemyclassroomandmyhome,andthepoetswhoperformedencouragedmetosharemystoriesaswell.NevermindthefactthatIwas14.Theytoldme,Writeaboutbeing14.SoIdidandstoodamazedeveryweekwhenthesebrilliant,grown-uppoetslaughedwithmeandgroanedtheirsympathyandclappedandtoldme,Hey,Ireallyfeltthattoo.
就是在這里,聽著這些詩歌,聽著他們共享的故事我從中了解到口語詩并不肯定要義憤填膺它可以妙趣橫生或苦痛不堪可以嚴(yán)厲?莊重或荒唐至極鮑威利詩社變成了我的課堂和我的家那些表演的詩人也鼓舞我去共享我的故事從不介意我只是個14歲的毛孩兒他們告知我“要敘述14歲的故事?!彼晕艺兆隽耍恐芏疾紳M驚異地站在那里表演這些才華橫溢的成年詩人和我一起笑,嘆息著他們的憐憫同時也為我鼓掌并告知我:“嘿,我和你感同身受?!?/p>
NowIcandividemyspoken-wordjourneyintothreesteps.SteponewasthemomentIsaid,Ican.Icandothis.Andthatwasthankstoagirlinahoodie.SteptwowasthemomentIsaid,Iwill.Iwillcontinue.Ilovespokenword.Iwillkeepcomingbackweekafterweek.AndstepthreebeganwhenIrealizedIdidnthavetowriteindignantpoems,ifthatsnotwhatIwas.Therewerethingsthatwerespecifictome,andthemorethatIfocusedonthosethings,theweirdermypoetrygot,butthemorethatitfeltlikemine.ItsnotjusttheadageWritewhatyouknow.Itsaboutgatheringupalloftheknowledgeandexperienceyouvecollecteduptonowtohelpyoudiveintothethingsyoudontknow.IusepoetrytohelpmeworkthroughwhatIdontunderstand,butIshowuptoeachnewpoemwithabackpackfullofeverywhereelsethatIvebeen.
現(xiàn)在我可以把我的口語詩之旅劃分為三個階段第一階段時我會說“我能,我能做到這個?!边@要感謝那個帽衫女孩其次階段時我說“我會的,我會連續(xù)。我愛口語詩。我會每周回來表演?!钡谌A段開頭時我意識到我不必寫些憤青的詩假如那表達(dá)的并非真的我有些事對我而言是獨具一格的我越是關(guān)注這些事我的詩歌就越離驚奇誕但這也更像我自己這不只是格言“寫你所知”的現(xiàn)實寫照更是你迄今為止全部學(xué)問與閱歷的匯總關(guān)心你深化了解于你而言的未知我用詩歌關(guān)心我厘清我所不理解的事但我展現(xiàn)的每一首新詩它是我過去那一打故事的交匯
WhenIgottouniversity,Imetafellowpoetwhosharedmybeliefinthemagicofspoken-wordpoetry.Andactually,PhilKayeandIcoincidentallyalsosharethesamelastname.WhenIwasinhighschoolIhadcreatedProjectV.O.I.C.E.asawaytoencouragemyfriendstodospokenwordwithme.ButPhilandIdecidedtoreinventProjectV.O.I.C.E.,thistimechangingthemissiontousingspoken-wordpoetryasawaytoentertain,educateandinspire.Westayedfull-timestudents,butinbetweenwetraveled,performingandteachingnine-year-oldstoMFAcandidates,fromCaliforniatoIndianatoIndiatoapublichighschooljustupthestreetfromcampus.
我在高校時,遇見一位同校詩人他和我一樣,對口語詩的奇妙深信不疑事實上,我和菲爾凱也恰巧同姓在高中我已創(chuàng)建V.O.I.C.E.方案鼓舞我的伴侶和我一同創(chuàng)作口語詩但我和菲爾打算徹底改造V.O.I.C.E.方案這次將它的使命改為將口語詩用作一種消遣、教育和激勵的方式我們?nèi)允侨罩仆瑢W(xué),但期間我們旅行、表演并傳授表演學(xué)問從9歲小孩到藝術(shù)碩士學(xué)位考生從加州到印地安那州、到印度、到校區(qū)中的一所公立高中
Andwesawoverandoverthewaythatspoken-wordpoetrycracksopenlocks.Butitturnsoutsometimes,poetrycanbereallyscary.Turnsoutsometimes,youhavetotrickteenagersintowritingpoetry.SoIcameupwithlists.Everyonecanwritelists.AndthefirstlistthatIassignis10ThingsIKnowtobeTrue.Andhereswhathappens,youwoulddiscoverittooifweallstartedsharingourlistsoutloud.Atacertainpoint,youwouldrealizethatsomeonehastheexactsamething,oronethingverysimilar,tosomethingonyourlist.Andthensomeoneelsehassomethingthecompleteoppositeofyours.Third,someonehassomethingyouveneverevenheardofbefore.Fourth,someonehassomethingyouthoughtyoukneweverythingabout,buttheyreintroducinganewangleoflookingatit.AndItellpeoplethatthisiswheregreatstoriesstartfrom--thesefourintersectionsofwhatyourepassionateaboutandwhatothersmightbeinvestedin.
我們看到口語詩好像雨后春筍一樣遍地興起但有時結(jié)局卻是詩歌讓人提心吊膽有時你要循循善誘地讓青少年寫詩所以我想出“做列表”這個辦法,每個人都能寫一份列表我要求的第一份列表是“我所確信的10件事”假如我們?nèi)咳硕奸_頭大聲讀出我們的列表你會和我有同樣的發(fā)覺首先在肯定程度上,你會意識到某人和你共享了同樣的事或是一件特別類似的事與你列表上的事雷同其次,有些人的列表則與你的截然不同第三,有人例舉了你聞所未聞的事第四,有人例舉的事,你認(rèn)為自己再清晰不過但這些事卻是以一種新視角呈現(xiàn)我告知大家這就是經(jīng)典之作的伊始這四個交集闡述著你的喜愛和他人的心之憧憬。
Andmostpeoplerespondreallywelltothisexercise.Butoneofmystudents,afreshmannamedCharlotte,wasnotconvinced.Charlottewasverygoodatwritinglists,butsherefusedtowriteanypoems.Miss,shedsay,Imjustnotinteresting.Idonthaveanythinginterestingtosay.SoIassignedherlistafterlist,andonedayIassignedthelist10ThingsIShouldHaveLearnedbyNow.NumberthreeonCharlotteslistwas,Ishouldhavelearnednottocrushonguysthreetimesmyage.Iaskedherwhatthatmeant,andshesaid,Miss,itskindofalongstory.AndIsaid,Charlotte,itsoundsprettyinterestingtome.Andsoshewroteherfirstpoem,alovepoemunlikeanyIhadeverheardbefore.Andthepoembegan,AndersonCooperisagorgeousman.

Now,Iknowthatthenumberoneruletobeingcoolistoseemunfazed,toneveradmitthatanythingscaresyouorimpressesyouorexcitesyou.Somebodyoncetoldmeitslikewalkingthroughlifelikethis.Youprotectyourselffromalltheunexpectedmiseriesorhurtthatmightshowup.ButItrytowalkthroughlifelikethis.Andyes,thatmeanscatchingallofthosemiseriesandhurt,butitalsomeansthatwhenbeautiful,amazingthingsjustfalloutofthesky,Imreadytocatchthem.Iusespokenwordtohelpmystudentsrediscoverwonder,tofighttheirinstinctstobecoolandunfazedand,instead,activelypursuebeingengagedwithwhatgoesonaroundthem,sothattheycanreinterpretandcreatesomethingfromit.
現(xiàn)在我知道,扮酷第一法則是要顯得不為所動從不承認(rèn)會有能嚇到你或令你驚異或使你興奮的事有人曾告知我人生之旅就像這樣護緊雙臂你要愛護你自己免受全部可能消失的出人意料的苦痛或損害但我會像這樣綻開雙臂,迎向生活是的,這意味著接受全部這些苦痛和損害但同時也意味著當(dāng)那些美妙、驚喜的事情從天而降我預(yù)備好要接住它們我用口語詩關(guān)心我的同學(xué)重新發(fā)覺奇跡向他們自身本能的扮酷和無動于衷發(fā)起挑戰(zhàn)取而代之的是樂觀追尋,與他們四周的環(huán)境打成一片這樣他們能重新解讀日常生活或是從中獵取靈感

這并不是說我認(rèn)為口語詩就是抱負(fù)的藝術(shù)形式我常試著找尋更好方式來敘述每一個故事我創(chuàng)作音樂劇、伴隨著詩歌制作短片但我只傳授口語詩由于它是易懂的并不是每個人能讀懂音樂或是擁有一臺相機但每個人可以用某種方式來溝通每個人都有故事,我們其他人都可以借鑒學(xué)習(xí)并且,口語詩為即時的互動聯(lián)系供應(yīng)了機會人們感到孤獨,或是不被他人理解這司空見慣但口語詩會告知你假如你有力量表達(dá)自己有士氣共享你的故事和觀點你可以得到那些傾聽你聲音的滿屋子同伴們或者詩社團的鼓舞甚至?xí)幸粋€穿著帽衫的高大女孩對你共享的經(jīng)受感到熟識這種感同身受是不行思議的特殊當(dāng)你還是個14歲的孩子另外,現(xiàn)在有了YouTube人們之間的聯(lián)系不再受限于我們所處的空間我如此幸運能得到這次演講的存檔視頻這樣我能與我的同學(xué)共享了它為同學(xué)們供應(yīng)了更多機會去找尋能使他們產(chǎn)生共鳴的詩人或詩歌
