This is really a big project, said Rey. Trust me. As long as Im in charge, well have the most wonderful project ever!It seems like Rey is always in charge, murmured(小聲說(shuō))Jake. It was true. Rey always seemed to be in charge of everything. He wanted everything to be as perfect as possible, and he just believed that he was the only person who could make that happen. This time, Rey decided to do a play about the Wright brothers and the first airplane flight. He announced that he would be the director, and he had also decided on the role that everyone would play. He would play the part of Orville Wright. He even had made the costumes, which Hannah would like to do.The next day, Rey announced he was going to play Wilbur Wright. How can you play both of the Wright brothers? asked Hannah.Ill just put on different hats for each one, said Rey.The next afternoon, no one showed up at the rehearsal (排練) except Rey. He needed his friends help if it was going to work at all.The next day at school, Rey had a talk with his friends, Im going to change. I promise I will listen to you. What do you want to do?Hannah thought the play should he shorter and Jake wanted to make a new airplane that would be easier to handle. He seemed to want to do something special. When I called him back, he had his usual one apple in his mouth. About five minutes later, I looked outside. The garden was completely covered with birds. (8分) Earworms, some people call them. Songs that get stuck in your head go round and round, sometimes for days, sometimes for months. For no clear reason you cannot help yourself from humming or singing a tune by Lady Gaga.To a psychologist, the most interesting thing about earworms is that they show a part of our mind that is clearly outside of our control. Earworms arrive without permission and refuse to leave when we tell them to. They are parasites (寄生蟲(chóng)) living in a part of our minds. If you have got an earworm you can suffer an attack of it simply by someone mentioning the tune, without having to hear it. This proves that earworms are a part of long-term memory. Humans have an inner ear, for remembering phone numbers, for instance. When it gets infected with earworms, rather than review our plans for the day, or lists of things to remember, the inner ear gets stuck on a few short bars of music or a couple of phrases from a song. A part of us that we normally do not have to think about, that should just do what we ask, has been turned against us, upsetting us with a request that we never asked for. The mind is an inner world which we do not have complete knowledge of, or have control over.Fortunately psychology can provide some advice on how to deal with an uncontrollable mind. Consider the famous dont think of a white bear problem, which tells you to try not to think about white bears, or to do something else, to avoid both thinking of the white bear and not thinking of the white bear. For earworms, the solution may be the same. Our inner ear has become infected with an earworm. This is a part not under our control, so just sending in instructions to shut up is unlikely to be of much help (and has been shown to make it worse). Much better is to employ the inner ear in another task. If your mind is poisoned by Brittany Spears Toxic, for instance, then try singing Kylie Minogues Cant Get You out Of My Head. Let me know if it works!(1)According to the passage, earworms are _.A . songs that keep going round in our mindB . worms that live in a part of our brainC . tunes by pop singers like Lady GagaD . parasites clearly under our control(2)Which of the following statements is TRUE?A . Singing songs may get earworms out of your headB . Earworms are used for keeping long-term memoryC . Humans do not have complete control over their mindD . You wont suffer from earworms unless you hear the song.(3)What does “it” in the last paragraph refer to?A . The instruction to shut up your mind.B . Dont think of the white bear”problem.C . Kylie Minogues Cant Get You out Of My HeadD . Using the earworm-infected inner ear in another task.(4)What is the passage mainly about?A . The causes and influences of earworms.B . (6分)閱讀理解 In the universe, as we know, there is the sun, the moon, the earth and a good many stars. Through our geography lessons, we know the earth goes round the sun, and the moon goes round the earth. We have day and night because the earth keeps turning all the time. When our part of the earth turns to the sun, it is day. When our part of the earth turns away from the sun, it is night. Just because the moon is closer to the earth than the sun, it looks much bigger than the sun. Big things will look smaller when they are farther, and small things also look bigger when they are nearer. The sun is bright enough to give out very strong light. The moon cant give any light at all, but it looks quite bright, too. Why? In fact, the light from the moon comes from the sun. The moon looks much bigger and brighter than the stars. But actually(事實(shí)上)the stars are much bigger and brighter than the moon. They look smaller than the moon also because they are farther away from the earth. There are still many other planets in the universe. But of all these planets, only on the earth there are living things and people can only live on the earth, too. But at 9:00 am on October 15th, 2003, Chinese pilot Yang Liwei was sent up to space. He stayed there for 21 hours. It was the first time for Chinese to get into space.
