Unit 8 SectionB Writing (3a-3b) Designed by Mao LiuyanUnit8 Section B writing (3a-3b)Part I. Teaching material1.Status and functionThe topic of this unit is about literature and music. Such a topic is related to our daily life, so its easy to arouse students learning interests. As we all know, many students usually have difficulties in writing compositions, some are even afraid to write. Therefore this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material.2. Teaching objectivesKnowledge objectivesa).To use the information they know to write a passage about their favorite singer or group . b).To use present perfect tense “have/has done” to express the success that the singer or writer has achieved and explain why they like this singer or writer best.Ability objectivesa) .To improve listening and writing abilities. b) .To develop the ability of summarizing and beautify common sentences or expressions .Emotional attitudes and moral valuesa) .To develop interests in country music and to know more about American culture.b) Lead the students to learn to relax themselves and color their daily life by listening to different kinds of music. Learn to enjoy the music, enjoy the life and enjoy themselves. 3. Teaching important and difficult points a).The important point is using right phrases and sentence structure they have learned to write a passage about their favorite singers. Finding out key information about the singer and using present perfect tense to write about success belonging to the singer is another important point.b).The difficult points are communication with others by writing passages and recommendations for their favorite singer.4.The analysis of studentsForgrade8students,theyhavemasteredenoughknowledgebothinvocabularyandreadingskills, They would like to share what they know and what they like with others, itllbehelpfulforthemtowrite a passage about their favorite singer or writer.Part II. Teaching procedures Step 1: Leading-in Lead the students to watch a video: brief introduction about how Taylor Swift has become so successful since 2007 that she has won so many awards and sold millions of records.Set four basic questions about the video and lead the students to answer.1. Who is the lady in the video?2. What kind of music does Taylor Swift sing?3. When did she first became famous?4. How many records has she sold?Step 2 : Pre-writing( brainstorm)T: Do you like Taylor Swift and her songs? Check how many of the students like or dislike her. Everyone has his or her favorite singer or group. Do you know how to talk about our favorite singer and recommend he or she to others? How many aspects should we talk about?music kind name, age, nationality songsreasons My favorite singer feelings opinions influenceT: Lead students to recall the music kind theyve know and express the feelings about different kinds of music by asking them two questions.1.What kind of music do you know? 2. How do you feel about country music, pop music and rock music? feelingsCountry music: slow, soft, laughter, trust one another, friendship ,the beauty of nature Pop music: beautiful, relaxed, touch your heart, easy to sing along with Rock music: excited, powerful, full of energy, cheer you up. 3. Why do you like the singer best?Ability: sing beautifully and loudly, write songs by oneself, be good at dancing and playing instruments, speak English well, study wellSongs: active, energetic, about the beauty and happiness of life, about youth, about the importance of friendship and teamworkPersonality: attractive, creative, friendly, kind-hearted to the poor4. How does he singer influence you?Achievements: the number of records he/she has sold, the number of albums she has released, the number of his/her fans she has got, the prizes he/she has wonPosition: the leader ofplay an important role inComments(評(píng)論): one of the most successful singers have great influence onStep 3: Pre-writing (pair-work)T: Do you have your own favorite singer or group? Do you want to know about your partners favorite singer or group? Interview your partners by asking the seven basic questions. Lead the students ask and answer questions in pairs and write down the answers on the cards.1.Who is your favorite singer or group?2.What kind of music is his or her songs?3.Why do you like him or her best?4.What famous songs has he or she recorded?5.How many records has he or she sold?6.How many albums has he or she released?7.How do you feel about his or her music?Step 4: Pre-writing (presentation) T: Show the students my own favorite singer Taylor Swift and my answers to the questions. And then ask several volunteers to show their answers.T: I like Taylor best, so I have written an article for her. Ask the students to read the passage and lead them to evaluate this passage. Can you find out my answers to the seven questions?T: Set three questions and lead the students to think and answer.1. What do you think of my passage? Why? 2. How many parts are there? 3. What each part is about?T: After that, lead the students to know the three key parts of a passage, and lead them to summarize what each part is about.T: Show the key structures to the students and ask several students to talk bout their favorite singer or group by using the structures.Beginning: My favorite singer/group is/I likebest./am fond of/have been a fan of. Reasons: I like him/her becauseHe/she has sung so songs that.He /She has released.His/her records have enjoyed great success inFeelings: When I listen to her song, it makes me feelSuggestions: You should/ It is worthI have introduced her/him to.Step 5: While-writingT: Now take out your cards, its your turn to write about your favorite singer or group , ask them to pay attention to some derails in the chart.T: In order to make your passage better and more attractive, pay attention three points: 1.Use “have/has done” to talk about success that the singer has achieved to improve he or she is successful. 2.Use “ever since then”, “already”, “yet”, to show the things have happened or not .3.Use “because” ,“ such as”,“however” ,“when”, “besides” to make your article more logical and more attractive. Step 6: Post- writing( group-work)T: After writing, show Evaluation Checklist(評(píng)價(jià)表) to the students and ask them to work in groups of four to evaluate their partners passage carefully according to the checklist. And then show the best passage in each group.T: Lead the students to realize the best things in life are free, such as laughter and the beauty of nature. Lead them to realize enjoy the music, enjoy the life and enjoy themselves.Step7: HomeworkT: Set two kinds of homework according to the students learning levels.
