Teaching design for Unit 10 Section B(2) Topic: Id like some noodles. 西安交大附中 王沛Teaching aimsKnowledge Objectives:a) Students learn to talk about different birthday foods around the world. b) Learn some important language points like light the candles; blow out the candles in one go; a symbol of life and good luck.; wish can come true; The number of the candles is- Ability Objectives: Students are expected to talk about different birthday foods and the steps to eat birthday cakes Moral Objectives:Students are expected to give their best wishes to their mom and care about their friends Analysis of the teaching materialTeaching contents:The reading part of Unit 10 Id like some noodles. Important points:a) The important words about birthday foods. b) The important sentence patterns to talk about foods around the world. Difficult points:Understand the special meanings of birthday foods around the world. Solutions: Guide students to do repeated practice and grasp the usage of the target language structures. Learning methodsa) Encourage students to speak actively by giving them positive reviews;b) Guide students to read with some reading skills. c) Lead students to apply the language structure into use by creating a real situation. Reading 1. Pre-reading: make a prediction Q1: What is the passage about?Q2: How old is the girl in the picture?2. While-reading 1) Skim for the structure 2) Scan for the answers a. Task One: read the second paragraph and answer questions. b. Task Two: read the third paragraph and complete the sentences. c. Task Three: read the fourth paragraph and complete the chart. Step 3:Practice 1. Quick Response Ask students to have a group competition to complete some key sentences. The student who gives the right answer wins one star for their group.2. Translate some sentences. The students who gives the right answer wins two stars for their group. 3. Make a conversation A student in our class iss going to have a birthday party, make a conversation and talk about the food we can eat in the party and what else we can prepare for the party. Step 4:Summary Ask Students to sum up what theyve learned in this class.Step 5: Homework1. Oral work2. Writing work 1. Let students have a chant together. 2. Encourage students to say what they usually eat on their birthday. 3. Play a micro video and raise two questions. 4. Ask two students, one of them is going to have a birthday party, to demonstrate the steps in front of the class. 1. Lead students to pay attention to the number of candles. (The number of the candles is the persons age.)2. Ask students to find key words or sentences so as to know the structure more clearly. 3. Draw students attention to the body part of the passage and give them different tasks to fulfill and then check their answers. a. Task One: Answer the following questions: How does the birthday person blow out the candles? why? What do people put in a birthday cake in UK?How do we know the age? b. Country Food Made from Ask students to get involved and consolidate what they have learned through different tasks and at the same time win stars for their group. Draw students attention to the same meaning of different birthday foods: bring good luck to birthday person. Help students create a situation and let them talk about what they want to eat in the birthday party. 1. The students have the chant happily and then share what they usually eat on their birthday. 2. The students are asked to watch the video and pay attention to the birthday food mentioned and the steps to eat a birthday cake. 3. Two students demonstrate the steps to eat a birthday cake.1. The students are asked to predict with the help of the title and the picture. This can help them read more effectively. 2. Then the students are asked to read quickly for main idea of each paragraph and then find the main structure of the whole passage. 3. Students are given some time to read the three paragraphs and find the answers. Students are encouraged to be active all through the activities. The tasks are designed with different stars, so as to arouse students interests. Ss are asked to sum up different birthday foods in different countries and the meanings. 1. Continue to make conversations with your partner about their classmates birthday party.2. Interview some of your friends about their birthday food and write a report. 1. Its designed to create a happy atmosphere and let students say their birthday foods freely. 2. By watching the micro video, the students get familiar with the steps to eat birthday cakes and the important phrases. 1. The prediction part is designed to activate students original knowledge about birthday food, so as to arise their interests in reading. 2. The reason to let students skim for the main structure lies in that students can have a clearer mind about what they are reading, so they can read more efficiently. 3. In this part, the students are expected to read with reading skills: skimming and scanning. The tasks are designed differently so as to train different reading skills. 1. By doing the quick response, and then translation, the students understanding about the passage can be consolidated. At the same time, through competition, students teamwork spirit can be shown. 2. In the conversation part, the students cooperative abilities of using language are expected to improve. They are also encouraged to care about their classmates.
