1、HEMINGWAY The KillerLIFE born in a small town called Oak Park in Illinois near Chicago father: a successful physician, middle class, love fishing and hunting; mother: music teacher a happy childhood; a lover of brutal sports, such as boxing and football in middle school Though his father hoped him t
2、o be a physician, Hemingway refused to enter university. He chose to be a reporter. During the WWI, he wanted to join the army but was refused because of his poor eyesight. Then Hemingway came to Italy to work as an ambulance driver. He was seriously wounded in the battlefield. The nightmarish war e
3、xperience changed his life. After the war, he still worked as a reporter. He was sent to Paris and knew Pound, Gertrude Stein, Sherwood Anderson and some other famous writers who encouraged him to write. He also worked as a war reporter in the Spanish Civil War and the WWII. He is a tough guy with r
4、ather masculine manner. In all his life, he loved tough games, such as boxing, hunting, deep-sea fishing and so on. He was injured many times. In all the operations, 237 steel fragments were taken out from Hemingways body. He also suffered 3 car accidents and 2 air crushes. He was admired as a hero
5、by lots of people and his life style was imitated. (9)In 1961, Hemingway shot himself with gun in his home. When things became too danger
10、ous for the mob they would retreat to the suburb of Summit, where The Killers takes place. Despite Hemingways knowledge of organized crime he omitted much of that background from the story. Hemingway himself said, That story probably had more left out of it than anything I ever wrote. I left out all
11、 Chicago, which is hard to do in 2951 words.CONCLUSION From Hemingways novels a clear developing process can be found. From the lost state at the beginning, he gradually found out the significance of life and the principles human should hold in a meaningless world. “The Old Man and the Sea” can be t
12、aken as a conclusion of his ideas. Two killers, Al and Max went to Henrys lunch-room and said they will kill the man named Andreson who was a boxer. They a
15、rranged the scene of the crime skillfully and controlled the Counterman George, Nick and the cook Sam. However, Andreson didnt appear. After the two killers leaving, Nick went to Andresons home and told him what would happen. It seemed that Andreson had known everything, he didnt take any action, on
16、 the contrary, he was waiting to die.Section 1 The Killers begins with two men walking into Henrys lunchroom and discussing what they want to eat. Max and Al bicker over what menu items are available with George, the counterman who had been talking with Nick Adams, the only other customer. Al and Ma
17、x order George to tell the cook, Sam, to come out of the kitchen, and then Al takes Nick and Sam back into the kitchen. Max announces that they are at the lunchroom to kill Ole Andreson, a Swede who usually eats dinner there at six oclock. At five minutes past seven, the two men leave, shotguns bulg
18、ing from their overcoats.Section 2 George watches the men leave. Nick and Sam come out from the kitchen, and Nick removes the towel that had been stuffed in his mouth. George tells Nick that hed better go to tell Ole Andreson that the two men are looking for him, but Sam warns him to stay out of it.
19、 After Nick says he is going to tell Ole, Sam remarks, Little boys always know what they want to do. This remark underscores Nicks youth and his innocence. In this section, it becomes clear that Nick has become the protagonist of the story.Section 3 In this section, Nick visits Hirschs rooming house
20、, where Ole lives. Mrs. Bell, the rooming house manager, lets Nick in. Ole is lying on the bed, dressed, staring at the wall. Nick tells Ole about the two men, but Ole says, There isnt anything I can do about it. He refuses Nicks offer to tell the police, remarking, Im through with all that running
21、around. Ole speaks with a flat voice, meaning that he shows no emotion. Ole thanks Nick for coming.Section 4 In this last section, Nick walks back to Henrys and tells George about Ole: Hes in his room and he wont go out. Sam opens the kitchen door, says, I dont even listen to it, and shuts it again.
22、 Henry says that Ole must have got mixed up in something in Chicago. Chicago was a hotbed of crime and gangster activity in the 1920s, so it is conceivable that, as George tells Nick, Ole double-crossed somebody. Thats what they kill them for. Nick is shocked at what happens and says he cant bear to
23、 think of Ole waiting in his room to get killed.
