定語從句由關系詞引出,關系詞包括關系代詞或關系副詞。4.關系代詞引導的定語從句(1)關系代詞在定語從句中代替人或物:who,whom用來代替人,who在從句中作主語或賓語,whom在從句中作賓語。which用來代替物,在從句中作主語或賓語。that用來代替人或物,在從句中作主語或賓語。whose用來代替人或物,在從句中作定語。注意:that比較靈活,好多情況下可以和who,which互用。但是在下面情況下,一般只用that:①現(xiàn)行詞為不定代詞anything,everything,nothing,any,little,one,few,much,all,none等時,如:Heisoneofthefewthatcanworkitoutinfiveminutes.Thereisn’tmuchthatIcando.②當先行詞是形容詞最高級或被形容詞最高級修飾時,如:ThebookisthebestthatIhaveeverread.Thisisthebiggestlaboratorythatwehaveeverbuiltinouruniversity.③當先行詞是序數(shù)詞或被序數(shù)詞修飾時,如:ItisthethirdonethatI’vebought.ThisisthefirstplacethatI’veevervisited.④當先行詞被thevery,theonly修飾時,如:Isthistheverymuseumthatyouvisitedtheotherday?ThisistheonlybookthatIneedatpresent.⑤當先行詞包含了人和事物兩方面的含義時,如:Theytalkedofthingsandpersonsthattheyrememberedintheschool.⑥當先行詞被same修飾,且指“同一物品”時,如:Sheiswearingthesamedressthatsheworeyesterday.⑦關系代詞在從句中作表語時,如:Thisisnolongertheplacethatitusedtobe.Heisnotthemanthathewas.(2)關系代詞引導定語從句時應注意的幾個問題:①關系代詞沒有數(shù)的形式,它既可以指代單數(shù)先行詞也可以指代復數(shù)先行詞。因此,當關系代詞在從句中作主語時,從句謂語動詞的數(shù)由先行詞的數(shù)決定。如:Ican’tbetheonlywomanwhoisn’twearingjewellery.Second,electricitycannowbemadefromthewaterwhichrushesthroughthebaseofthedam.②在從句中作賓語的關系代詞常??梢允÷浴H纾篐aveyoufoundthebook(that)youwant?③當關系代詞緊跟介詞,作介詞賓語時,不可用that,只能用whom或which(即that不能作介詞賓語)。如:ThebookfromwhichIgotlotsofusefulinformationwaswrittenbyafamousteacherWhoistheboywithwhomyouweretalkingjustnow?④定語從句通常緊跟在先行詞之后,但有時二者之間可能有其他詞語。要在閱讀時觀察清楚。如:OnAugust28,1963,Kingmadeaspeechtothousandsofblackpeoplethatimmediatelybecameworld-famous.Cavepaintingshavebeenfoundwhichareatleast20,000yearsoldandareperhapstheoldestformofartyetdiscoveredontheearth.5.關系副詞引導的定語從句關系副詞when,where,why在從句中分別作時間、地點和原因狀語。關系副詞在意義上常常相當于一個“介詞+which/whom”的結構。(1)關系副詞從句中所作的成分:when(=at,on,in,duringwhich)作時間狀語;where(=in,on,atwhich)作地點狀語;why(=forwhich)reason作原因狀語。如:Thisistheroomwhere(inwhich)Ilivedthreeyearsago.Thisisthebridgewhere(onwhich)youtookphotos.Istillrememberthedaywhen(onwhich)IjoinedtheYouthLeague.Thereasonwhy(forwhich)hemissedthebuswasthathegotuplate.(2)關系副詞引導定語從句時應注意的幾個問題:①where的先行詞可以是有地點含義的抽象名詞,如:Hehasreachedthepointwhereachangeisneeded.他
