從電腦字數(shù)統(tǒng)計情況看，文章累計詞數(shù)1680個，題目詞數(shù)720,閱讀理解題總詞數(shù)2400。其閱讀速度為：2400÷35≈69個詞／分(06和07兩年都為72詞/分)。從數(shù)字上看，這個速度高于高考英語科設(shè)定的基本要求65詞/分，低于《教學(xué)大綱》的要求70-80詞／分。但是《教學(xué)大綱》的要求與《高考考試說明》的要求是有質(zhì)的區(qū)別的：中學(xué)生平時的閱讀是在具體目的不甚明確、沒有太大外界壓力的情況下進行的，采取的閱讀方法基本為略讀（skimming），也就是迅速閱讀文章，以了解其主旨要義、作者態(tài)度等。而高考中的閱讀活動則并非如此，考生既需要略讀，以獲取一些整體性信息；也需要查讀（scanning），以獲取所需的細節(jié)性信息。另外，考生還需要一些時間考慮試題的解答。因此，考生在考場中的實際閱讀速度必須大于69詞／分。
