TheProcessingStrategyofCulturalImageinFilmTranslation獲獎(jiǎng)科研報(bào)告Abstract：Moviesareanimportantformofculturaldissemination，andtheaudienceisverywide.However，duetothedifferenthistoricalaccumulationsoftheChineseandWesterncountries，culturaldifferenceshavebroughtmanyobstaclestofilmtranslation.Howtomaketheaudienceunderstandtheimageryinthemovieplaysakeyroleininterpretingthecontentofthemovie.Tothisend，thisarticlefirstelaboratestherequirementsandparticularitiesoffilmtranslation，thenanalyzestheconceptofculturalimages，andfinallyproposestheprocessingstrategiesofculturalimagesinfilmtranslationfromtheaspectsofimageliteraltranslation，imagereconstruction，imagemodificationandimageconversion.

Therearedifferencesinthewaythelanguageisused.Ifthereisnogoodtranslation，itmaycausesomemisunderstandingsorcognitivedifferences.Filmtranslationconnectsthetwoaudiences.Therefore，filmtranslatorsarerequiredtonotonlypayattentiontotheartistry，butalsoconsiderthedifferencesbetweenEasternandWesterncultures，respectChineseculture，andrestoretheculturalcharacteristicsoftheoriginalfilmtothegreatestextent.

1Requirementsandparticularitiesoffilmtranslation

Thedifferencebetweenfilmtranslationandliterarytranslationisthatthefilmisacombinationofsoundandimage，sowhenwatchingamovie，theaudienceshouldpayattentiontothecharactersandplotwhilewatchingthetranslation.Filmtranslationshouldfocusontheneedsoftheaudience，andusecolloquialexpressionstocleartheaudience'sunderstandingofobstacles.Movietranslationispresentedintheformofsubtitles，soyouneedtoconsiderhowtosynchronizetheimageandsubtitles.Thisisagreatchallengefortranslatorsandtechnicians[1].

3Strategiesforprocessingculturalimagesinfilmtranslation

Languagesareconstantlychangingintheprocessofdevelopment，andcountrieswillalsobeaffectedbyculturalexchanges.Therefore，weshouldlookatfilmlanguagetranslationfromadevelopmentperspective.Culturalexchangesaretheresultoftwo-wayinteraction，suchasCoca-Cola，theInternetandMacdonaldimportedfromabroad，whileKungfuandTaijiinChinaarefamiliartomanyforeigners..Therefore，therearemanyimagesthatmaybeuniversalintheworld.Literaltranslationisthemostcommonmethodoffilmtranslation[2].Ontheonehand，itretainsthemeaningoftheoriginalfilm，andontheotherhand，itcanensuretheaudience'sunderstandingofforeigncultures.Forexample，TheSilenceoftheLambsistranslatedas"TheSilentLamb"，andBeautifulMindistranslatedas"BeautifulMind".However，duetothedifferencesbetweenEasternandWesterncultures，themeaningsofsomeculturalimagesaredifferent.Thisrequirestranslatorstofullyunderstandtheculturesofthetwocountriestoavoidunsatisfactorywords，soastoavoidthespreadofthefilm.Adverseeffects.

3.4Imagetransformation

Inmanycases，thesameculturalimagehasdifferentmeaningsindifferentcountries，andsometimesitisfarfromeachother.ItmaybeauspiciousinChinabutominousinforeigncountries;negativeimagesinChinaarepositiveinforeigncountries.Ifthetranslatordoesnothandletheseculturalimageswell，itwillcauseabigerrorintheaudience'sunderstanding.Therefore，thetranslatorcanadoptthemethodofimageconversionwhennecessarytofindasuitableimageinChinesetomatchtheimageintheoriginalEnglishfilm.Forexample，thereisadialoguein"WutheringHeights"：Edgar："Oh，youwantadragon？"Isabella："Yes，Ido.Withafierymustache."ThekeyworddragonandtheChinese"dragon"meansacomparisonclose，butthemeaningof"dragon"inChineseandWesternculturesisverydifferent：thedragoninEnglishisthedevilandisabominable;whileinChina，thedragonissupremeandcanbeusedtorepresenttheChinesenation.Themeaningsofthetwoarediametricallyopposite，soitisinappropriateforthetranslatortotranslatethewordas"dragoncavalry"，butshouldbeconvertedtothemeaningof"barbarian".Thisrequirestranslatorstounderstandanddealwiththeproblemofimagedislocationsothattheaudiencecanbetterunderstandthemeaningofthefilm.
