Ifthechargedparticlesaretoomanythateventhemagnetospherecan’tbetolerable,itcausesamovingofourmagneticfield,andthat,inturn,willcauseelectriccurrentsontheground,andthesecurrentscancausefluctuations,andtransformerstobeshortedout.Thiswouldbringdownthepowergridandcauseblackouts.Soifwehavebeenhitbyasolarblastthatpowerfulenough,ourcascadingfailuresinpowersystemcouldfrytheelectricgridtheworldover.AccordingtoarecentreportissuedbytheNationalAcademyofSciences,fullrecoverycouldtake4to10years.Ifitreallydoeshappened,theconsequencescouldbedevastating,thefoodisgoingtorunout,peoplecouldbedeadoffreezing,suddenlypeoplewouldnothavewaterfordrinking,orforagriculture,orforsewage.
