ThisteachingdesignisforUnit2Topic1SectionCoftheRen’aiEditionGrade9Englishtextbookforthe2022-2023schoolyear.Themainobjectiveofthissectionistohelpstudentsimprovetheirlisteningandspeakingskillsthroughgroupdiscussionsandconversationsrelatedtohobbiesandinterests.Thelessonplanincludeswarm-upactivities,avocabularyreview,alisteningcomprehensiontask,andagroupdiscussionactivity.

II.LearningObjectives

Bytheendofthissection,studentsshouldbeableto:

Identifyandunderstandvocabularyrelatedtohobbiesandinterests.

Listenandcomprehendpassagesrelatedtohobbiesandinterests.

Engageingroupdiscussionsabouthobbiesandinterests.

Useappropriatelanguageandexpressionstoexpressopinionsandpreferences.

IV.TeachingProcedure

1.Warm-upActivity(10minutes)

Greetthestudentsandreviewthepreviousclass’topiconhobbies.

Askstudentsabouttheirfavoritehobbiesandwhytheyenjoythem.

Encouragestudentstosharetheirhobbiesandopinionsinpairsorsmallgroups.

2.VocabularyReview(15minutes)

Writethefollowingvocabularywordsonthewhiteboard:

painting,playingsports,playingmusicalinstruments,reading,cooking,collectingstamps

Askstudentstomatcheachhobbywithitscorrespondingpicture(ifany)anddefinition.

Facilitateaclassdiscussiontoensureunderstandingofthevocabularywords.

3.ListeningComprehension(20minutes)

Explainthatstudentswilllistentoaconversationbetweentwofriendsdiscussingtheirhobbies.

Distributethelisteningcomprehensionhandouttoeachstudent.

Playtheaudiocliptwice.

Instructstudentstoanswerthequestionsonthehandoutindividually.

Discusstheanswersasaclass,encouragingstudentstoexplaintheirchoices.

4.GroupDiscussionActivity(25minutes)

Dividethestudentsintosmallgroups(3-4memberspergroup).

Provideeachgroupwithasetofdiscussionquestionsrelatedtohobbiesandinterests.

Instructthegroupstodiscussthequestionsandsharetheiropinionsandexperiences.

Circulateamongthegroups,monitoringtheirdiscussionsandprovidingguidanceifneeded.

Afterthediscussion,askeachgrouptosharetheirfavoritehobbyandreasonswhytheyenjoyitwiththerestoftheclass.

V.Conclusion

Thisteachingdesignaimstoenhancestudents’listeningandspeakingskillsbyengagingtheminmeaningfulconversationsabouthobbiesandinterests.Throughthewarm-upactivity,vocabularyreview,listeningcomprehension,andgroupdiscussion,studentswillhavetheopportunitytoexpandtheirvocabulary,practicelisteningcomprehension,andexpressthemselves
