2、and adjustment 而時(shí)間管理nd how to manage time in college 是其中一個(gè)非常重要的方面Is one of the major aspects for their new life 因?yàn)樵诟咧兄癇ecause they go to college他們的時(shí)間Almost all their time is 幾乎所有都由學(xué)?；蛘呒议L(zhǎng)支配Controlled by their schools and parents 而到了大學(xué)以后Once they go to college 有相當(dāng)一部分時(shí)間需要自己來(lái)安排They will learn to arrang

3、e their own time by themselves 所以本期節(jié)目我們特地邀請(qǐng)了So for todays program 美國(guó)卡爾頓大學(xué)We have invited Prof. Qiguang Zhao 亞洲語(yǔ)言文學(xué)系主任 趙啟光教授Of Asian Languages Department Carleton College 和八位剛剛步入大學(xué)的同學(xué)And eight new college students 一起來(lái)討論如何管理時(shí)間To discuss how to manage time on campus 我們相信看完這個(gè)討論之后呢We believe after watchi

5、all我們有請(qǐng)趙啟光教授 有請(qǐng)Now lets start with Prof. Zhao Please趙教授 能不能以今天管理時(shí)間為題Can you make a brief introduction 給大家做一個(gè)簡(jiǎn)單的開(kāi)場(chǎng)白On the topic of time management時(shí)間是什么What is time魯迅說(shuō) 時(shí)間是生命As Famous Chinese author Shun Lu said time is life 富蘭克林說(shuō) 時(shí)間是金錢(qián)Franklin said that time is money對(duì)于軍人來(lái)說(shuō) 時(shí)間就是勝利And for a solider time

6、 is victory1851 年 拿破侖率領(lǐng)的大軍In 1851 Napoleons army and 和歐洲各國(guó)的反法聯(lián)軍Troops of Europes anti-Napoleon alliance 在比利時(shí)的滑鐵盧會(huì)戰(zhàn)Were battling in Waterloo 雙方處于膠著狀態(tài)The two sides were in a draw 誰(shuí)的援軍早到Whoevers reinforcement came up first 就可能扭轉(zhuǎn)戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)的形勢(shì)That would turn the table 戰(zhàn)役發(fā)生之前Before the battle started拿破侖派遣他的精銳部隊(duì)Na

7、poleon sent his crack troop 由格魯希元帥率領(lǐng)Commanded by Marshal Grouchy 去迎擊遠(yuǎn)道而來(lái)的普魯士軍隊(duì) To meet the Prussian troops head-on 接觸以后 取得了小的勝利After a brief engagement Napoleons troop won the small battle 這時(shí)候普魯士軍隊(duì)就消失了Then the Prussian troops disappeared 格魯希就在原地待命While Grouchy was digging in 正在他等待命令的時(shí)候Waiting for ne

8、w order 地下發(fā)生了震動(dòng)The ground underneath him started trembling 遠(yuǎn)處傳來(lái)了隆隆的炮聲And the sound of cannon fires could be heard now 這是拿破侖的主力That signaled that the main forces of Napoleon 已經(jīng)和反法聯(lián)軍在滑鐵盧會(huì)戰(zhàn)Were now engaged in the fight with the anti-Napoleons forces 這時(shí)候格魯希的部下At that time some junior officers of Grouchy

9、 請(qǐng)求格魯希立刻火速增援拿破侖Asked to rush to reinforce Napoleon at Waterloo 只要三個(gè)小時(shí)It only would take three hours 格魯希的軍隊(duì)就可以趕到會(huì)戰(zhàn)地點(diǎn)For Grouchys troop to get to Waterloo 而這支援軍的到達(dá)And if this force got there in time 就可以扭轉(zhuǎn)戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)的形勢(shì)It would help turn things around 可是誰(shuí)能想到But who would think 法國(guó)的命運(yùn)在這個(gè)時(shí)候The fate of France was n

10、ow held in 卻落在一個(gè)平庸之輩手中The hands of a mediocre French marshal 格魯希可能是一個(gè)好的元帥Well Grouchy may be a good marshal 否則他就不能升到元帥的地位Otherwise he would not be a marshal as he was但是在時(shí)間的面前But in terms of time 他是一個(gè)平庸的統(tǒng)帥He is a very mediocre marshal 因?yàn)樗欢镁o急重要的情況Because he could not make a distinction between 和不緊急不

11、重要的情況的區(qū)別What is urgent and what is not 他手里拿著拿破侖命令他The order he had in his hand from Napoleon 追擊普魯士軍隊(duì)的命令Was to pursue the Prussian troops 而沒(méi)有調(diào)遣軍隊(duì)火速增援主力的任務(wù)But not to reinforce the main forces of France 格魯希猶豫了三分鐘He hesitated for a few minutes 決定在原地待命And then decided to stay on 只經(jīng)過(guò)短短的三個(gè)小時(shí)But only after

18、s take a look at the big screen 為啥時(shí)間總是不夠用Why Does There Never Seems to be Enough Time 小王同學(xué)剛進(jìn)大學(xué)The moment Student Xiao Wang got into college 便被大學(xué)豐富的校園生活徹底迷住了She was attracted to the rich campus life there 她一口氣加入了三個(gè)社團(tuán)和兩個(gè)協(xié)會(huì)In one breath she joined three student groups and two societies 小王的日程安排Her sched

19、ule every day was always fully occupied 從每天早上一睜眼到晚上睡覺(jué)前都是滿的From the time she woke up to the time she went to bed 有時(shí)甚至連吃飯的時(shí)間都沒(méi)有Sometimes she did not even have time for food 因?yàn)樵谒磥?lái)To her all the things she was supposed to were equally important 所有的事情都一樣的重要 一樣的緊急Equally urgent剛開(kāi)始 這種忙碌讓小王很充實(shí)In the beginn

20、ing she felt that her life was interesting and time well spent 但是不久就有了問(wèn)題But pretty soon problems showed up 由于疲于奔命地Because she scrambled every day to try to deal with 完成各種任務(wù)All the activities and her study 有些工作和計(jì)劃只能一拖再拖Some of the task and her plan had to be delayed again and again小王也被同學(xué)誤會(huì)說(shuō)Sometimes

21、her classmates would mistake that as her 工作效率低下Lack of ability to do things effectively 小王很困惑She was also at loss 為什么每天這么努力Why did there never seem to be enough time for her 但時(shí)間卻總是不夠用Even if she tried very hard every day案例一 為啥時(shí)間總是不夠用Case #1 why there never seems to be enough time 來(lái)進(jìn)行你們的一個(gè)解決方案陳述 有請(qǐng)Ca

22、n you present a solution for that problem Please 實(shí)際上一個(gè)人的精力和她的時(shí)間In fact a mans time and energy 是非常有限的Are very limited 如果說(shuō)她一次性承擔(dān)了過(guò)多的任務(wù)If he or she has taken on too many things at the same time 那么很明顯的 她將一直疲于奔命That will of course make him scrambling around for time 第一點(diǎn)是她必須要對(duì)自己的那個(gè)計(jì)劃The first point is he

23、or she must have a general mastery of 有一個(gè)總體的把握What he is going to do 她有必要將這些事情It is necessary for him 由最重要的事情到最次要的事情Make a priority list of what is most important 進(jìn)行一個(gè)排序And what is less important 這不禁讓我想到了This makes me think of 我們?cè)诳荚囍蠺he 2/8 principle that 老師給我們講的二八法則Our teacher recommended to us for

25、e 在實(shí)際操作中To know in advance and in operation 會(huì)出現(xiàn)的一些突發(fā)情況What the unexpected may pop up 因?yàn)槿绻麤](méi)有彈性時(shí)間的存在That is because if you dont have the flexibility of time 一旦遇到突發(fā)情況If and when you run into and not prepared for contingency 他就會(huì)疲于應(yīng)付You will be scrambling just tread water這樣一來(lái) 她既定的計(jì)劃就會(huì)受到影響If so his plan w

26、ill be affected謝謝Thanks 我想對(duì)劉原君所說(shuō)的I want to comment on 預(yù)留一點(diǎn)彈性時(shí)間What Yuanjun Liu said about做一點(diǎn)補(bǔ)充Reserving some flexible time 一個(gè)是必須有針對(duì)性的This flexible time has to be targeted and focused 我們不能夠以有了彈性時(shí)間為由So that one will not find himself excusing himself 就存在做二次的心理For having the time to do it over again 我們要

27、一次到位You have to strive for getting it done once 第二個(gè)就是Second point is我們要合適的 盡多不盡少的We have to prepare for the worst 因?yàn)橛?jì)劃是趕不上變化的Why Your plan usually cannot keep up with the pace of change 我們不能低估了We cannot afford to underestimate 時(shí)局變化的一個(gè)概率The probability of unexpected change of situation第三個(gè) 像培根說(shuō)的一句格言就是

28、And third just as Bacon once said 合理統(tǒng)籌規(guī)劃時(shí)間Properly plan and use ones time 就等于節(jié)約時(shí)間本身Is equal to saving time itself Thanks 謝謝Thanks 好的 謝謝Great Thanks好 有請(qǐng)Now next 剛才那位男同學(xué)所說(shuō)的二八法則Since that male student mentioned 2/8 principle 那么我們要用百分之八十的精力That is to say we need to use 80% of our energy to 去做那些百分之二十的很重要

29、的事情20% of things in life that actually is our priority 那么在這百分之八十的時(shí)間里頭Then for this 80% of time 我們也應(yīng)該講究一個(gè)We also need to figure out 時(shí)間優(yōu)化的一個(gè)哲學(xué)A philosophy of prioritizing time 有一些科目 它是屬于一種For some subject matters they belong to 我們所謂的文科性的思維What we call approach of social science and humanities 有一些科目 它是

30、那種比較理性的思維While others are more science and abstractly oriented 那么你的大腦So it will take your brain 在切換這不同的科目中While switching from one subject area to another 必然會(huì)有一些所謂進(jìn)入狀態(tài)的時(shí)間Some time to get into its proper function 如果我們把一些屬于文科性的If we put those humanities-oriented tasks 屬于很藝術(shù)性的那些我們要做的任務(wù)Those arts-orient

31、ed tasks 放在前后做 放在一起做Together with the science/rational tasks 我們就可以省去很多We will save lot of time因?yàn)榇竽X進(jìn)入狀態(tài)緩慢Waiting for the brain to get ready 而浪費(fèi)掉的時(shí)間And thus waste time 我建議她將休息方式具有多樣性I suggest he diversify the ways of taking break between tasks 比如說(shuō) 聽(tīng)音樂(lè)Such as listening to music比如說(shuō) 上網(wǎng)沖浪Or like doing som

32、e Internet surfing 當(dāng)生活豐富多彩的時(shí)候When you have a colorful life 她將會(huì)更有精力 更有樂(lè)趣You tend to have more energy and fun 去面對(duì)她所將要面對(duì)的任務(wù)和工作When you face or do your task or work好的 趙一葦Great How about Yiwei Zhao 我認(rèn)為小王在這個(gè)案例中I think Xiao Wang has made 犯的一個(gè)主要的錯(cuò)誤A major mistake in his presentation 就是沒(méi)有明確自己想要的是什么That is he

33、 does not know what he really wants 比如說(shuō)她追求的For example it is not clear whether 是一個(gè)很好看的成績(jī)單Hr is after a good semester academic report 還是說(shuō)非常豐富的課外活動(dòng)Or a rich after-school activities 如果明確了這個(gè)問(wèn)題If you know what you really want 她就不會(huì)每天都有很多的事要做Then you will not find yourself in too many engagements 而且自己也十分努力

34、You will not be in a situation where you try 但還是什么事都做不完Very hard but just could not get enough time to finish things 我覺(jué)得小王還犯了一個(gè)毛病I feel Xiao Wangs presentation has another shortcoming 就是她沒(méi)有從自身考慮That is he did not tailor it to his own situation沒(méi)有量力而為He took on tasks beyond his means and time availabi

37、ll have to spend on average 10,000 hours on a subject 比如說(shuō)比爾蓋茨學(xué)會(huì)計(jì)算機(jī)Take Bill Gates for example 他在上中學(xué)的時(shí)候就花了 10000 小時(shí)He spent more than 10,000 hours on computer even in high school 現(xiàn)在的問(wèn)題是The question now is這 10000 小時(shí)從哪里來(lái)Where will this 10,000 hours come from 那這就是老子的Well Lao Tzus idea of“無(wú)為 無(wú)不為”思想Sponta

38、neous behavior(wu-wei) or action through inaction 就可以對(duì)我們有所幫助Could give us some help 老子說(shuō) 為者敗之 執(zhí)者失之Lao Tzu said those who strive will fail who cling will lose無(wú)為 故無(wú)敗 無(wú)執(zhí) 故無(wú)失No action then no failure no obsession then no loss 就是說(shuō)你總要有一些事情不去做它It says there are certain things youd better leave them alone 這件

39、事不做了 不想了 不說(shuō)了Only when you stop doing thinking of or saying something 其他的事情才可以做 可以說(shuō) 可以想Then can you can start doing saying or thinking of other things 這是無(wú)為 第一點(diǎn)That is wu-wei or no action That is my first point 第二呢 你要無(wú)不為Second action through inaction我們做事情When it comes to do things可以從輕 重 緩 急順序來(lái)做一個(gè)事情We

40、should have a priority list and order 這個(gè)輕重緩急This priority list在時(shí)間管理上When applied to time management 我們可以叫做時(shí)間的四象限We can call it the four coordinates of time有重要而緊急的事情T(mén)here are things that are important and urgent 重要而不緊急的事情T(mén)here are also things that are important but not urgent 第三種 是不重要但是很緊急的事情And the

41、third kind there are things that are not important but urgent 第四種 是不重要也不緊急的事情And fourth there are things that are neither important nor urgent 剛才有同學(xué)說(shuō)過(guò)Just now some student mentioned 要明確自己的生活目標(biāo)One had to have a clear goal in life 如果這件事跟你的目標(biāo)直接相關(guān)If something has a lot to do with your goal in life 那就是重要

44、ked about應(yīng)該看書(shū) 鍛煉身體 追求美好Reading books keeping fit and seeking good things in life 這些事情非常重要All these things are important 鍛煉身體 變得非常強(qiáng)壯Keeping fit makes one healthy 這很重要 對(duì)吧 但是并不很緊急Which is very important But it is not urgent 正因?yàn)樗皇橇⒖套龅腂ecause it is not urgent 我們經(jīng)常忽視它We often ignore it 不重要而緊急的事情也很多There

45、are also many things that are not important but urgent 其實(shí)我們每天Some people say that 有人說(shuō)我一天到晚窮于應(yīng)付Everyday we are just scrambling to keep up 小王就是一天到晚窮于應(yīng)付Xiao Wang definitely belongs to that category 那就是我們經(jīng)常陷入在事務(wù)之中That is we often find ourselves in mundane affairs 比如說(shuō)你正在參加我們節(jié)目的錄像For example you are in st

46、udio doing US program你的朋友來(lái)電話 你需要接Your friend is calling you which you should pick up 這件事情很緊急This is an urgent matter 但是你什么時(shí)候跟別人談 跟他談However what time you talk to him over the phone 并不太重要By itself is not important 第四點(diǎn)就是不重要而又不緊急的事情Fourth things that are neither important nor urgent 很多 舉個(gè)例子There are ma

47、ny such examples For example 現(xiàn)在我聽(tīng)說(shuō)I heard that nowadays 有很多人玩一種網(wǎng)上的社交游戲There are many people playing a social network game online 叫做偷菜Which is called stealing vegetables 我看看誰(shuí)玩偷菜Let me see who among you play that game 王利芬博士 您可能不知道Doctor Wang you may not know it 這么多人玩偷菜But so many people are playing it

48、 我知道I know知道You know 就是坐在計(jì)算機(jī)前頭It is like this you sit in front of your computer 你種上很好的菜You plant your vegetables 你的朋友也好 來(lái)偷你的菜And your friends will try to steal them from you 你就要保證他不偷你的菜 對(duì)吧You will do everything to stop them from succeeding in it 但是呢 他可能半夜三點(diǎn)來(lái)偷你的菜However your friends may come at 3 am

49、所以你就在這兒盯著So you have to sit there monitoring your verge garden 重要嗎Is that important你認(rèn)為它緊急 實(shí)際上也不緊急Well you may think it is urgent but in fact it is not 結(jié)果你在那兒坐了一夜In the end you have sit there for a whole night 絕對(duì)不讓他偷你的菜And your garden is absolutely safe now 這件事情會(huì)耽誤你很多事情But this game will make you del

50、ayed in many other things 而很多人把這兩件事情混淆了Many people have confused the two things 格魯希元帥在原地待命Marshal Grouchy was staying there waiting for order 是不重要的That was not important是否他遵循Whether or not he followed 拿破侖叫他追擊敵人的命令Napoleons order to pursue the enemy troop 無(wú)所謂Was not that important 另外也沒(méi)有人要求Besides the
