2.1Warm-upActivity

Tobeginthelesson,theteacherwillaskthestudentssomewarm-upquestionsrelatedtotransportation,suchas:

Haveyouevertraveledbyplane/train/bus/car/bike/boat?

Thisactivityisdesignedtoactivatestudents’priorknowledgeabouttransportation,aswellasestablishacomfortableandengaginglearningatmosphere.

2.2Reading

2.2.1Pre-reading

Beforereadingthetext,theteacherwillaskstudentstothinkabouthowtheywouldaskfordirectionsiftheywereinanunfamiliarplace.Theteacherwillencouragestudentstothinkaboutpoliteandrespectfulwaystoaskfordirections.Then,theteacherwillgiveabriefintroductiontothetextandexplainthevocabularythatmightbeunfamiliartothestudents.

2.2.2While-reading

Duringthereadingactivity,theteacherwilluseinteractivereadingtechniquestoengagestudents.Forexample,theteachercanaskstudentstoreadaloudtogether,pausefrequentlytoexplainunfamiliarvocabularyandgrammarconcepts,andaskcomprehensionquestionsthroughoutthereading.Theteachercanalsoencouragethestudentstotakenotesorhighlightkeyinformationwhiletheyread.

2.2.3Post-reading

Afterreadingthetext,theteacherwillaskstudentstosummarizethemainideasandimportantpointsofthetext.Theteacherwillalsoaskcomprehensionquestionsrelatedtothetexttocheckstudents’understanding.Then,theteacherwillaskstudentstoworkinpairsorsmallgroupstopracticeaskingforandgivingdirectionsusingthevocabularyandexpressionstheylearnedinthetext.

2.3Writing

2.3.1SentenceStructure

Beforethewritingactivity,theteacherwillreviewsimplesentencestructuresinEnglishandexplaintheroleofsubject,verb,andobject.Theteacherwillalsoprovideexamplesofsentencesrelatedtotransportationandprepositionstohelpstudentsunderstandhowtoconstructsentencesaboutdirections.

2.3.2WritingActivity

Forthewritingactivity,theteacherwillaskstudentstowriteashortparagraphabouthowtogetfromtheirschooltoanearbylandmark.Theparagraphshouldincludeinformationaboutthetransportationoptionsavailable,theprepositionsusedtodescribedirections,andanylandmarksornotablelocationsalongtheway.Theteacherwillencouragestudentstousethevocabularyandexpressionslearnedinthetext,aswellasanynewvocabularytheylearnedduringthewritingactivity.

2.4Wrap-upActivity

Towrapupthelesson,theteacherwillasksomefollow-upquestionstoreviewwhatstudentslearnedinthelesson.Forexample:
