SMALL TRACTORS TARGET BIG PERFORMANCE After introducing both its large chassis 4000 and mid-chassis 3000 Twenty series tractors last year, John Deere recently focused on the compact end of the range, launching new models in its small-chassis 2000 Twenty series. Two tractors are new to the 2000 Twenty series, the 24 hp 2320 and 26.5 hp 2520, and a third, the 24 hp 2305, has been added to Deere s 2000 series compact utility line. “ More customers are in need of a machine that can perform large mowing jobs in addition to light-duty chores that can t be done with standard lawnmowers, such as loader and/or box blade word,”  said Sean Sundberg. Deere brand manager, compact utility tractors. “ John Deere responded with our new small-chassis tractors that help customers select the right tractor for the right job at the right price.”  With the Twenty series extending across 10 models ranging from 24 to 58 hp, the 2320 and 2520 are the smallest offerings in the lineup. The new 2320 replaces Deere s 4110model, which was part of its 4000 Ten series line and is still limitedly available. The 2320 tractor has “ big tractor”  features Deere said, offering more hp then its predecessor as well as ROPS, position control three-point hitch and cruise control as standard. A step up from the 2320 is the new 2520 Twenty series tractor which also includes a “ big tractor”  design with more horsepower, a direct injection engine, more hydraulic capacity and larger tires. The 2520 replaces Deere s 4115 compact utility tractor. Also new to the small chassis lineup is the 2305 tractor, which fills Deere s need for an entry-level tractor to allow new operators to easily and intuitively operate the tractor. It targets large property homeowners and replaces Deere s 2210 model. “ The 2305 is a small but powerful tractor, which makes it ideal for lawn chores, pasture maintenance, work in tight spaces, and a variety of other property tasks,”  said Sundberg. “ Whether it is mowing, hauling, loading or tilling, the 2350 has the versatility and power to tackle most any job easily and efficiently and at a significantly lower price than what was previously available.”  Powering the three new tractors are Yanmar Tier 2TNV series diesel engines rated 24, 26.5 and 24 hp at 3000 rpm. A 1.115 L three-cylinder naturally aspirated Yanmar engine is installed in both the 2320 and 2305 machines while a larger 1.33 L three cylinder platform is installed on the 2520. According to Deere, the 2320 and 2520 tractors have 11% more hp then their predecessors, which were rated 20 and 24 hp. The Yanmar engines are configured with a Trad radiator and Blissfield oil cooler cooling package. The tractors  two-speed infinitely variable hydrostatic ground drive provides infinite speed selection without clutching or shifting, and a integrated differential lock is designed to integrated differential lock is designed to increase the tractors  traction and pulling power. The drive is powered by a Kanzaki variable displacement axial piston pump, which is transmission mounted and direct driven off the engine. This 14 cu.in. (11 cu.in. in the 2305) pump drives Kanzaki fixed displacement axial piston wheel motors in the same cu.in. displace ment. This “ U”  style configuration uses mechanical control and is configured with a Kanzaki axle package. Additional auxiliary hydraulic flow is powered on the smaller 2320 and 2305 tractors by a Kanzaki gear pump that is transmission mounted. This pump has a 6.1 cu.in. displacement in the 2320 tractor and 5.5 cu.in. displacement on the 2305 machine and are used to supply the steering, remote coupler circuit, three-point hitch, and depending on model, PTO clutch. The 2520 tractor, the larger of the three machines, uses two Kanzaki gear pumps to power the same circuits. These pumps have a 4.9 cu. n. displacement and are mounted off the engine. A clutch-driven PTO is available at both the mid and rear of the 2000 Twenty series tractors rated 18 hp on the 2305 and 2320, and 20hp on the 2520. The mid-PTO placement allows the tractors to use Deere s 54D and 64D mower decks which have drive over capability for improved attachment versatility. “ A common request from our customers was to have quick and easy attachment and removal of mover decks,”  said Sundberg. “ John Deere responded by introducing the next generation of midmount mowers providing not only the flawless cut quality to which John Deere is known, but also best-in-class attachability.”  The tractors also have a new sloped hood design which provides greater visibility, especially when using the loader just one of the many attachments available with the tractors. Others include front blades, rotary brooms and cutters, mowers, snowblowers/throwers and tillers. A backhoe is also offered on the 2320 and 2520 for more versatility. Other standard features of the 2000 Twenty series tractors include four-wheel drive, position control rockshaft, standard steering brakes, and high-backed contoured suspended operator seat. Power steering and Deere s ergonomic Twin Touch two-pedal foot controls are also included. “ While homeowners will appreciate their versatility, ease-of-use and maneuverability, commercial customers will value the comfort, stability, efficiency and power of the new 2000 Twenty series tractors,”  said Sundberg. Deere will begin offering the 2320 2000 Twenty tractor in summer of 2006 while dealer shipment on 2520 and 2305 tractors has already begun. Traction Control Lifts Genie In Rough Terrain Enhancing one of its most popular lift models, Genie Indus tries has introduced a new traction control drive system on its GS-68Rtseries of rough terrain scissor lifts. Available on both the GS-2668RT and GS-3268RT lifts, two of six models Genie offers in its rough terrain series, the new drive system provides enhanced traction, giving the scissor lifts additional capability in wet and uneven terrain. “ Our customers, especially those in the Northeast, face some pretty severe conditions,”  said John Norton, Genie product manager. “ Depending on season, they can be up to their ankles in mud, knee deep in snow or covered with ice.”  Now with the traction control drive. Norton said, “ we took a really good machine and made it a great machine. It has greater utilization and can get to more areas in rough terrain environments.”  Designed for both indoor and out door applications, the GS-2668RT and GS-3268 RT scissor lifts are available with diesel, gasoline or propane power options, all of which are located on a swing-out engine tray for easier service access. The diesel power option is either a 0.90 L three-cylinder Kubota D905 engine rated 20 hp or a 1.13 L three-cylinder Perkins 403C-11 engine rated 26 hp. The Kubota engine is prepackaged with a Donaldson air cleaner and a Denso radiator, while the Perkins diesel is equipped with those components at Genie s Redmond, Wash., manufacturing facility. The machines can also be equipped with a dual fuel (gasoline and propane) option, which is a 0.75 L three cylinder Kubota DF752-EWZ engine rated 23 hp. Genie improved the hydraulic drive system by giving independent wheel control to both the 32 and 38ft. working height lifts. “ When we set out to improve the traction, we knew we had to take it one wheel at a time,”  said Norton. Genie s other rough terrain scissor lifts (the GS-3384 RT, GS-3390 RT, GS-4390 RT and GS-5390 RT) feature a similar traction drive that uses a closed-loop figuration. Beefing up the traction control drive system on the GS-2668 RT and GS-3268 RT required adding a HydraForce combiner/divider valve to the circuit, which directs flow from the Bosch Rexroth two-section hydraulic pump (0.488 cu.in. displacement per section) to White Drive Products motors mounted at the wheels. It is the combiner/divider valve that ensures flow reaches each wheel independently, allowing maximum ground power even during loss of contact. When a wheel loses contact with the ground, the traction drive is designed to maintain 75% power. Displacement in each of the wheel motors was also increased from 28.3 cu.in. to 32.7 cun.in., which Norton said improves gradability, giving the lifts access to 35 to 40% grades. It is also designed to reduce the average drive pressure, which minimizes wear and tear. Other features of the drive system include two drive modes: a parallel mode which assists in uphill travel using a slower speed with maximum torque; and a series mode which is ldeal for operation on flat, level ground, operating at a higher travel speed with less torque. Both machines are four wheel drive, have dynamic braking, a spring applied hydraulic release parking brake and foam-filled tires. Inside turning radius on the machines is 5 ft. The drive system hydraulics on GS-2668 RT and GS-3268 RT models also power the work platform. The two-section Bosch Rexroth pump supplies flow to Dongyang hydraulic lift cylinders to raise and lower the 66 sp.ft platform, operated by an electronically controlled Hall effect joystick which Norton said provides “ smoother control, particularly on rough terrain.”  Lift capacity on the work platform is 1000 to 1250 lb. The GS-2668 RT and GS-3268 RT lifts are available with a series of options such as automatic leveling hydraulic outriggers, a 2 KW generator to power hand tools, cold-start package and a series of light systems. A hot weather kit is standard on the machines. Weights on the GS-2668 RT and GS-3268 RT are 6373 and 8008 ld. Genie began offering the new traction control drive system on the GS-2668 RT and GS-3268 RT scissor lifts last fall.
