The kind of beef we see in hamburgers , minced(切碎)beef, was possibly invented by Mongolians over 800 years ago. But who first put the beef between pieces of bread and called it a hamburger? Three different cities in the United States all say that they were the first to invent Americas favorite food. Some people say that Fletcher Davis, from Athens, invented hamburgers. “Old Dave,” as people called him, was selling minced beef sandwiches in his lunch bar as early as the 1880s. Some years later, they say that a group of Germans calledhis sandwich a “hamburger” because people from the German city of Hamburger ate this kind of beef. Other people believe that the hamburger came from a different American city.coincidentally, its name was also Hamburg. The Menches brothers were selling pork sandwiches at a fair in 1885, but when there was no more pork, they used minced beef and gave it a new name, the “hamburger”. The third possible inventor of the hamburger was Charlie Nagreen, also known as “Hamburger Charlie,” from Seymour. He said that in 1885 he invented the worlds first hamburgers. Seymour now celebrates the invention of the hamburger every year. In 1989, it was the home of the worlds largest ever burgerover 2,500kg! 任務(wù)一 請根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,完成句子。每空一詞。(2分) 1. A hero is someone who helps another person in the face of difficulties or in danger. Fred Hollows was such a person. Fred Hollows was born in New Zealand and became an eye doctor. He believed that all people, rich and poor, should have good medical treatment. After he began working as an eye doctor in Australia, he learned that many Aboriginal(土著的) Australians had eye disease because of dirty environment and bad health. He set up a program to help people take care of their eyes. Because of his work, many Aboriginal people could see again and fewer Aboriginal people became blind. Later, Fred Hollows learned blindness was also a big problem in Africa. Many people in Africa needed small eye surgeries (外科手術(shù)) to cure(治愈) their blindness. The cost of this surgery was only twenty-five dollars. But that is a lot of money to a poor person in Africa. Their were also no doctors to help. Fred Hollows wanted to help the people in Africa. But he couldnt go to Africa because he had become sick. So he started the Fred Hollows Foundation. This foundation collected donations from people in rich countries. This money provided equipment for eye surgeries and helped to train doctors. The foundation helped thousands of people to see again. Pictograms are usually simple pictures, and they are often made with letters and words. A pictogram is a symbol which represents an idea or an object through an image (圖像). Also, it is a kind of communication system which must be learned but is very useful in our lives. The user must learn to see, understand and remember the different pictogram symbols. There are about 1,400 different symbols at the present time.A Canadian named Subhas Maharaj came up with the idea for pictograms in the beginning of the 1980s. At first, pictograms were introduced to help people who had disabilities in speaking, reading, or writing. Pictograms are images of objects that are easy to see and create. Today, pictograms are used in many different ways. For example, there are traffic, recycling and restaurant signs, even animal symbols and so on. Pictograms are usually in white against a black background. The combination of white against a black background creates extremely contrast (對比), and this makes pictograms friendlier to user. A good example of a pictogram is the public toilet symbols for “men” and “women” just like the one on the left. Pictograms are a useful method of communication, and people can have fun as they learn each pictogram.任務(wù)一 請把下列圖標(biāo)與單詞匹配,把圖標(biāo)的字母代號填寫在相應(yīng)的橫線上。(每小題1分,共4分) recycle_traffic_restaurant_animal_任務(wù)二 請把句子Pictograms are usually simple pictures, and they are often made with letters and words. 翻譯成漢語。(2分)_.任務(wù)三 請根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,回答問題。(2分)What was the purpose of the first pictograms?_.任務(wù)四 請從文中找出與people enjoy learning pictograms because they are useful. 意思相同或相近的句子。(1分)_.2012閱讀表達(dá)(共15分)A.閱讀下列圖示,完成短文。(每空不超過兩個(gè)詞)(每空1分,5分)How to Make PancakesPancakesYou need:2 cups of flour 1 cup of water1 cup of milk 1 eggHere are 1 for making pancakes. To make pancakes, we need 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of water, 1cup of milk and 2 .Get all the ingredients ready 3 cooking.
